  • New Problem: Fuel Pressure

So I thought the fuel pump was bad, had 0 psi at the release valve on the rail. But the pump cycles. So I figured I'd eliminate other possibilities before replacing the pump. FPR was first, I swapped in a different one from my spare fuel rail. Cycled the pump, still 0 psi. So I then decided to try my entire spare rail. I put the FPR from the original rail into the spare rail and then proceeded to remove the fuel lines from the rail in the car and attach them to the extra rail. Cycled the pump, if I let it run continuously (pump only, not engine) it would hold perfectly steady at 50 psi. The instant I took power away from the pump it would drop to ~40 psi then within 10 seconds would fall to 20 psi, by one minute 15 psi. So the problem is definetly something wrong with the fuel rail in the car. But shouldnt it hold near running pressure (~34-40 psi) much longer than 10 seconds? or is this ok/normal?

after 4 hours my fuel pressure was still really high...shot gas all over my engine and it was shooting out for a while. I gave up trying to put the gauge on it cause the gas wouldn't stop shooting out of the shrader valve.

swapped rails, got it all back together. Cranked forever, it finally started (I thought maybe it was flooded). Idled for 5 mins. I hopped in for a test drive, as the door closed the engine quit and wouldnt restart. It had spark and fuel pressure when I checked them (maybe one or both are cutting out intermitently). Weird that the jossle of the door closing corresponded with the exact moment the engine died. Maybe something is loose? A ground? But where?!

Problem Resolved. The new fuel rail seemed to do the trick. I believe the reason it stalled after I replaced it was due to a vacumn leak, the gasket for the TB to plenum was not sealing (forgot to tighten one of the 3 bolts... oops!), I took care of that and it runs nicely once again. After all was done I go to take a test drive and the car is handling a bit funny, and sure enough one of my rear tires is damn near flat. Found a nail in it, someone just doesnt want me to have working cars! Got it patched up, so all is well once again.

thanks to ben, mark and nico who have been helping me out, through IM

Sounds like my PITA time changing intake gaskets on the 92. Broke the Coolant Temp Sensor in the lower intake, tried to epoxy it back together, didn't work, bought a new one, didn't want to take the whole deal apart, unhooked the fuel rail lines and heater core line to get room to get in there, and what do I do??? Drop the new coolant temp sensor down the fucking hole into the bellhousing beside the shifter cables. Oh yeah, that was fun getting it out of there. Leaked out 2 gallons of coolant overnight cause I got too pissed off to work on it a half an hour more that night. Stupid car, I was about ready to put a for sale sign on it I was getting so pissed off.
