  • Oil Consumption-problem solved

    YIPPPPPEEEEE!!!!!!! Problem solved.
BMFH you were right on the money about the distribution plate gasket. The gasket looked like it was leaking right next to the baffle for the ventilation line on the plate. My theory is that it was leaking enough oil near that baffle to have the oil running down to the base of the baffle where the hole is and 'sssssssssllllluuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrppppppp!!' The suction there drew the oil in and through the hose to the intake.

    Two things to consider:
    1. Anytime it has been a while since you have changed the distribution plate gasket and you have the intake manifold off.........CHANGE IT. They are cheap and it's good insurance. The additional effort amounts to nothing also. Everyone follow BMFH's instructions at the end of my other post. They are as follows:
be carefull not to gouge the gasket mating surfaces because the gasket may not seal properly and you will still have an oil leak. Its is Very Important not to let the gasket debris get down into the engine inside the cavity under the distribution plate, do not use the 3M pads with a sander to clean off the gasket.

    2. My plate had a crack in it on the top of the raised portion that has the passage for pressurized oil. I could tell it was leaking oil out of this crack in the cheap pot-metal that GM used for this plate. I found one at the junkyard. It was also cracked, but not as bad as mine. GM HAS DISCONTINUED MAKING THESE, so you can't get a new one. At least that's what my dealership showed me right on the parts computer. They are not easy to weld either, as there is always going to be oil in those cracks that you can't get out. I had a friend weld the cracks in the one from the junkyard just for insurance.

In summary, if you have oil being sucked in good volume out of your crankcase and it all seems to be coming through the PCV valve line. There is a good chance this is your problem.

I want to thank BMFH and all the others who offered their help with my problem. We should be thankfull for this age we live in, where we can get help from so many people willing to offer it.
