  • Starter Problem Update

I would just like to recap on my starter problem I have had for a long time. Over a year ago I had to replace my starter and did so with a aftermarket peice (dixie electric).

Then immediatily following the change I had an intermitant failure to start. When the starter selanoid would no fully engage. It would just click and I would have to keep trying until it started. So, I checked, cleaned and retightened all connections, and that did nothing.

So, I tore it out and got a replacement, same peice as before. It didn't help, So with the advice from some people here. I changed and beefed up all my battery cables, terminals and had installed an Optima yellow top aswell. Same shit. But when it does engage it cranks over like a motherfucker

So I moved to the next step, that was also recommended here. I pulled out that Dixie electric POS and installed a GM rebuild instead. What do you know... It works. I'm on probably my 50th start and no problems.

So, now I have to take that POS and ram it up some part-store ass and see if my money comes out the other end. Fucking Bitches. I don't understand it, what is the difference GM farms out their rebuilds to the lowest bidder just like everyone else. Stupid fucking QC guys.

Ah Well, Heres to my victory.

    Hey! Good to hear!

I was going through the same phase. I purchased a rebuilt starter from Pep Boys for the DOHC .. I ended up replacing it 6 times, using the same brand, as it was the only brand they carried. I ended up talkin to the district manager (the store manager couldnt help me), and was able to get the cash back, went and bought a Duralast (autozone brand), and this starter has been working great!

Maybe its a hit or miss with these starter brands

That is exactly why I take my starters and alternators to a little shop by my house that rebuilds them with heavy duty parts cheaper than an aftermarket piece. Never had a problem yet.

Reminds me of a friend. He went to Napa for a starter for his pickup. 4 starters later he FINALLY got one to work. Like said, probably hit or miss with these rebuilt ones.
