Discovered something a bit confusing...
According to the schematics in the service manual the 6 wire harness on the ICM should have a black/red wire for ground. It has this wire. This wire leads to pin D19 on the ecm. There is continuity between these harnesses (using a digital meter I checked and the wire is continuous from pin D19 to Pin F at ICM). So the wire is in fact ok. If I pull the 6 wire harness of the ICM (harness D plugged into ecm) and use a meter to check for a ground signal on Pin F (black/red wire -ignition is on) something electrical, sounds like a motor, cycles on the drivers side of the engine bay. Is that normal? I checked continuity on all other wires in the 6 wire harness with their corresponding pins on the ecm, all checked ok. The power supply harness to the ICM always has +12V and ground, so long as the ignition is on. And the 2 wire crank position harness always supplies an a/c voltage when checked while engine cranking.
The engine sometimes will start, and run just fine, then quit out for no apparent reason and not restart for minutes. Then do it all over again. When it does run, it runs normally. I tried my spare ignition module again today, same story. I may pull the one off my 3.1 now (its the original one from my dohc) because it seems to have no problems creating spark in the 3.1 - so if I get the same conditions with it at least I'll know its not an ICM/coil issue. and... ground to the plate on the back of the ICM is good.
anyone have any ideas?1991 Grand Prix GTP LX9swap/Getrag 284 --- SOLD =(

Replaced ICM with one from the 3.1. Car started right up, ran perfect for ~15 minutes, then back to the same problem. Sputters, stalls -starts and runs 10 seconds then quits. Now it wont restart at all. Anyone know what the voltage for the CPS should be at cranking speeds? I got <1volt AC. I think its losing the CPS signal and failing to spark as a result. Does the wiring from the CPS go directly to the ICM or does it feed anything else? Can I just replace the wires with ones that run directly from the CPS to the ICM?1991 Grand Prix GTP LX9swap/Getrag 284 --- SOLD =(

If my memory serves me, when we had the engine out doing the swap in the 91, the wiring ran from the CPS right to the ICM. It was two wires of decent gauge twisted together.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.
