  • Timing Belt 93 DOHC

    Hi All,
I have a 93 DOHC W Body Cutlass. The timing belt stripped out on me and have a question on setting the camshaft timing. I have stripped it down to the cams, and set the flats up and the timing marks are aligned now and the TDC is lined up.
Is there anything else I need to do before putting it back together? According to the Haynes Manual, it looks like that all you have to do is line the flats up and set new timing marks if the marks don't match up with TDC. At least this is the way I am interpreting it.

    Help?
    Thanks...

You dont want both sets of cam flats to be up at the same time. You have to set 1 set, then rotate the crank 360 degrees and set the other bank. This will make 1 bank face down and the other face up.

      Hi Ben,
Thanks for the help. I used your web link to cross reference the Haynes manual to ensure accuracy. In the end after looking at the Haynes, it just appeared to be lining the flats up, put belt on, rotate, take belt off, line up the other side, then put the belt back on and double check your allignments after another turn.
Looks like the difference between your link and Haynes is that they do not go as in depth as you recommend replacing a few more items.
What is the purpose of the special tools or the drawback to doing the way I state above?

Once you put the belt on, you do not take it off or you will loose the time you just set.
