  • belt/pulley noise?

OK so I'm not quite on the road yet but my 3.4dohc fiero swap is going fairly well untill I install a vent in the heater core line at the top of the engine in order to get the air out of the system fill with water and start er up..

I notice there is some chirping / squeeking coming fromt he belt area.. can't pinpoint it..

since I just purged the air my first instinct is water pump .. but the pump made no noise running before I purged the air from the system .. maybe the belt is slipping slightly with the added resistance of more water less air?

second fear is what if its not even related to the water and a timing belt pulley randomly chose this time to start seizing..

any of you experienced a similar noise? heared what a timing pulley sounds like when its going out? anything to help me diagnose?

    RE: belt/pulley noise?

Well, normally I was tell you to look at the power steering pump, since those like to make noise as they go. So do alts, they like to squeak as they are about to go. Ive never heard any of the cam drive parts making noises, but then again, ive never had a pulley go out either. If you didnt put new idlers and tensioner in it, maybe you should. I dunno wha the condition or milage is on your motor but I wouldn't trust a previous owner to do proper maintenance on the motor unless I know the person is capable of it.
