RE: Timing chain removal
You should replace the chain anyway, so why worry about damaging it?-Brad-

From what I see you have a couple options:
- Use a special tool to pull the cog off the crank while you slide the cam cog off at the same time. You then need a special GM tool to reinstall the cog, supposedly. Bah.
- Cut the chain (what other people have done)
(What I did) - Remove tension from the chain (rig the tensioner closed), Pull the intermediate shaft cover off (inside bellhousing, obviously), and slide the intermediate shaft right out, and let the shaft cog fall off in your hand as you pull the shaft out. I wish I would have thought about this BEFORE I moved the stupid crank cog. Now I gotta figure out how to put it back in place...

Yeah, I moved my damn crank cog before finding out how to pull the jackshaft. Fiero is just kicking around, awaiting it's new powerplant. I just recieved the last of my parts today, so I can bring them to the machine shop and have them complete the work. I'm a little bummed about only getting iron rings (moly face) for the later year pistons, where you could get moly/steel for the earlier style pistons, but long as I don't detonate... What project are you working on?

i wouldn't call it a project. more like a work in progress. still kicking around with the lumi until i find an 88 gt t-top. i did however change the master plan. instead of using a 282 i have decided to keep the 4t60e due to some problems i have read about when mating 3.4 dohc to the 282. also the 4t60e isn't that lethargic with the 3k stall in it.
other than that my project so to speak is trying to get new parts for this diamond in the rough motor out there.
i am starting small with ud kits and next month i am starting on an a/c delete and ps delete kits. other than that maybe i will focus on finding some1 to make a set of headers for fieros and lumi's in the future maybe this year
i remember 1 guy spending 6 thousand dollars for an engine swap and the guy 1/2 assed it and he wasn't even sweating getting ripped off.The Official Rotating Mass Nazi

You mention the 282 having problems bolting to the 3.4? How so? I'm running a 282 on my 3.4 and it bolts up like it was made for it, not a problem. I have yet to try the stock crossover pipe, but I think it may not be an issue for the Getrag. Others with the 4 speed and Isuzu are having problems with the release arm nailing the crossover pipe. I haven't decided if I'm going to route my exhaust Fiero style and make a custom Y pipe (which obviously would negate that issue), or if I'm going to try the FWD style exhaust for the sake of simplicity. Good luck on getting the project together, and don't forget to write a buildup thread on PFF if you do the Fiero swap.
