big problem looking for some help

ok hooked up scanner today no eng codes checked timing seems to be ok car started after few tries . car running chugging sputtering from exhaust give little gas and it still sputters wondering if a coil is going bad or the ignition modual and also where you connect the pressure reg vac hose and the trans vac hose on the side of the plentum should that be sucking or blowing air ? because mine has air coming out and iam thinking that it should be sucking right? as in vacuum which sucks not blow. if iam right about this whats doing this and how to correct the problem ?

it could be blowing air in spirts if you are getting backfiring
maybe the crank sensor is going out throwing off the spark timing
