  • fuel pump upgrade

i having a fuel pump problem i installed and aftermarket pump from auto zone u know its made in mexico, anyway i think the check valve is defective in the pump. it will not hold pressure when engine is shut off. thats the only thing it could be. so i was thinking of getting and acdelco pump from the dealer or upgrading to stronger pump like walbro 255 lbs/hr would this be a good idea or would it be too much for a tired stock engine whith 188,000 miles on it? the dealer pump is about 145.00 dollars and i think the walbro pump is cheaper. and if its not going to hurt anything where could i get a walbro pump local instead ofgetting one online?. iam in the baltimore area . any help or suggestion? thanks tony94gtp

usually not holding pressure is a sign of a leaking injector or a bad fuel pressure regulator - I have a walbro pumping to my dohc (but then again i have turbo plans)

its also possibly a leak in the connection between the fuel pump and the high pressure line inside the tank..

hows your car starting when hot? milage good? I'm still suspicious of a fuel injector

the car runs fine it wont start right away after its been sitting i have to prime the fuel rail by turning the key on then off to on to so start thats about it. iam thinking the pump i just installed is defective like the ckeck valve. i would think that i would be blowing alot of white smoke and the smell of gas from the exhaust if and injector was leaking the car was running fine until the fuel pump went up and i installed one from advance auto parts ran for two days good start up and was good then the start up problem began.

I run the walbro (holley) 255 lph and its fine. I ran it with my 3.1 and now my DOHC. I would go with that over the AC delco stock replacement pump. I have no idea on the check valve, as ive never really looked at the fuel pump. If its dropping pressure that quickly, you would definetly notice something while driving if it were the injectors leaking.
