  • Finally on the road!

I finally got the Monte on the road. I have to thank all that have helped me out getting this thing done. It was looking pretty grim there for a bit. I still have a few problems though. I think I have them figured out I just want a second opinion for peace of mind. Here it goes...

With the car running and in park, when I rev the engine all is well. However, when I get it out on the road it seems like it don't want to accelerate. My minivan can get to 70mph faster. I have identified a vacuum leak from where the UIM and LIM meet up. Will this affect acceleration? There is also a rattling noise from the catalytic converter area. I have checked the heat shields and they are tight. I suspect it may be clogged up but dont want to go buy a backpress gage and remove the hated O2 sensor. Is there any other way to check? I may just pull it and gut it. If it runs better then I will get a high flow cat. Thanx for any info!!

    RE: Finally on the road!

a vacuum leak can throw your fueling off, and the clogged cat will just kill performance as well. GUtting the cat makes it sound like ass (tornado under the car).

Thamx for reply. I will take care of the vacuum leak this week. I will hold on the cat thing until then. Gutting it would only be a test. I guess I could just disconnect the pipe and drive it down the road once to see the difference. I just hope vacuum will fix it all the way! Thanx agian.

At the risk of sounding like a complete dumbass I will tell you all what I did to this engine to make it run so crappy... Ready??

I put the f**king MAF sensor in backwards... How sad!! After all the work I did the last part I installed caused me so much crap. And to make it worse I didn't even find it that way. I had one of the guys I work with come out to the parking lot to set his eyes on the problem. He found it in like 2 minutes.

What I had belived to be a vacuum leak from the UIM turned out to be the power steering pump. My buddy said he thinks it's an internal relief while the pump is doing no work. I still think there is a leak but I'm not sure where it's from. I am going to replace some of the rubber hoses this weekend and see if that halps any. I will also try the carb cleaner route.

The rattling I thought was coming from the catalytic converter is gone at idle. I can hear almost the same sound during acceleration though. It makes an awful rattle at @ 4000 rpm during acceleration from a stop. I think maybe the connection from the exhaust pipe to the rear manifold may be wore out.

        Almost There!!!
