  • Alternator: Iceberg vs. CS-130D conversion?

Alright, I'm facing the 3rd alternator job in 3 years for my GTP. I was thinking that I'll go with an Iceberg in 140 or 170 Amps and hopefully not have to do this annoying task anymore, but I have also been considering swapping to the CS-130D. How hard is that swap to do? Is it simply a matter of using the CS-130D connector and having the same wire leads to splice into my existing harness?

Anyone have any relevant experience with either of these options that they are willing to share? And also, who has the best price on an Iceberg? Or can you even get one outside of QuickStart themselves?

    Thanks in advance

What are you doing with your alternator's? However 3 in 3 years doesn't sound too weird for GM in that time frame.

I would go for the CS-130D 170 amp unit. Get it self-exciting and then you don't even have to hook up the harness. But you probably wouldn't have to do much to convert the wiring. The CS-130D is a much better designed alternator, so you would definatily be better off. I have one of these exact units and it works awesome. I've had it for 3 years and no issues.

Yeah, that's what I was leaning towards since the Iceberg CS-130 and 130D are the same price on alternatorparts.com I just need to make sure they bolt up the same although I can't see any reason why they would be different. And I want to know exactly what's involved with getting the wiring hooked up. There must be someone who can chime in here.

Lyle, where did you buy your's to?

I had mine built at a shop here in Edmonton. Same thing though, it bench tested like 180 something.
