  • Hot engine

I don't know if this is normal or not, but here is the problem. I start my car, leave it run for about 2 minutes and the engine gets so hot that you cannot touch it. It also does the same after being driven. According to the guage on the dash the car gets up to about 220 degrees in this time. I don't think this is normal for a car to be so hot. The coolant is full and the fan works but it kicks in in less than 3 minutes from a cold start (@ 230 degrees). I don't know if it could be caused by a faulty thermostat? Also could anyone take a pic of or let me know where the thermostat is if this could indeed be the problem. Thank you for all your help.

How about the radiator being clogged?
The thermostat is right below the throttle body.

Definately sounds like a dead/stuck thermostat. Just swap it out with a new one and everything should be good. If it was a plugged radiator, the collateral circulation would still have enough of a cooling effect to keep the engine from heating up that fast, unless the plug is exactly at the intake or exit from the radiator.

I'd start by replacing the thermostat.. easy fix, probable answer.

There seems to be a pattern there.

Cool, thanks for the fast response! I'll grab a new thermostat and throw it in. Hopefully that will cool it down a bit.
