  • fouled plugs???

i fionally found the cause off of a gut instinct i changed the plugs out for some spares i had. these things fouled super quick.

this is what the car was doing: got any idea why my car runs so shitty if it isn't the crank sensor? Symptons: 1st it ran fine then under wot it would spit, sputter go a little repeat the same steps over. but it did fine under idle and cruise. then under cruise i had to hold the gas pedal about 50% to maintain speed until i made it home but it would still idle and now it can't even hold an idle. sounds like a dead miss.

i have alot of spare parts so i have replaced the following: ign module, coilpacks, went back to stock injectors, went back to stock intake arm and tb and doing so replaced the iac and tps. my wires are magnecor and they are brand new. my plugs are a/c delco platinums brand new. i checked the plugs they are sooty, no oil synonimous with compresion loss and no coolant on them, i pulled the valve covers and the cams are aligned telling me the car is still in time. only thing i haven't replaced yet is the ecm or the cps.

the problem could be something else. i am open to suggestions. i did a search and i noticed some other cps faults displayed similiar symptoms.

i thought it was the crank sensor b/c the plugs were brand new. what causes plugs to foul like that? they are sooty black and smell of gas. could it be the injectors being too big? anyway i changed back to stockers. how about oil, will that cause them to foul where they can't fire?

    RE: fouled plugs???

isn't that symptom of running rich? Refer to the other post of the CPS. What about the O2 sensor, how old is that?

      Re: fouled plugs???

when did it start doing this? How long did you have all that stuff on your car before it started acting up. Theres a ton of things that can cause issues like that. No check engine lights? Did you check your egr, when my dad had the cutlass i have now, the egr went bad, i think there was something else too, but that thing would barely run. Bigger injectors can be a problem also. For instance, i'll be running bigger injectors in my honda, but with an aftermarket, piggyback computer system. Otherwise, you could be flooding out the motor that way. I agree that it looks like you are running very rich. It actually looks like you have raw gas on the spark plug threads. All you have to do is start up your car and smell the exhaust, you'll know right away if its rich, you should be able to smell gas. Also, look for a lot of black soot all over the rear of the car. I don't know what car you have, does it have the mass air flow sensor, or if they have a air intake sensor, i've seen those caust problems on cavys.

Its rich plain and simple. If you havent already, check the Engine Coolant Temp sensor. It should read 3400 ohms at 21*C (70*F) if not then replace. Does the car also reach normal operating temperature and are you running a stock temperature thermostat?
