  • cutlass supreme 3.4 temp guage/heating issue

Okay, i have a possible issue. Not really sure, the car is a 94 it use to be my dads, he sold it to a friend, i bought it back last fall. I did the usual timing belt, and even went to the timing chain, replaced the water pump. It also had the massive oil leak, went with the goop trick, replaced some gaskets when i was there, however not the thermostat. Bad idea. Anyways, so couple times timing the car and it runs great. Exhaust is shot, have the stuff to fix that, but i noticed a while ago that, especially when it is comign up to temp, that if i get on it, the car tends to go higher then i think it should. It never has gotten to the right of middle, actually its never even gone to middle, the fan catches it before that. It cools down and then tends to stay pretty still. I don't drive the car much, as it sucks in the snow, and i have my civic with blizzaks. Well, its summer, the civic is getting turboed and what not, thus premium gas, and i want the cutlass running perfect. So, first is it normal for the guage to fluctuate like this. Second, i'm going to get the thermostat, is that a waist of time. I have super warm heat all the time, i never tested the upper hose, but when i was bleeding the system it was always hot, so i'm pretty sure the coolant is gonig through it. No coolant over flow issue, so i'm hoping its just normal or the thermo and not a head gasket. Also, i am a bit over full on my oil..... found it takes a long long time for the oil to drain back down. Like i said i don't drive the car hardly at all....

Also, while i'm on the subject, anyone have or no where to get the plastic sliders for a sunroof?

okay, i see people are reading, so i'll modify this.... more like a poll. Does anyone else ever have where there car will go from 195-200 normal, up to 215-220, whatever the fan kicks on at, when you really get on it, but then fall back to say 190 till the fan cools off, and then back to the 195-200 range. either a yes or no, or any explanation. Thanks.

on my analog guage, the temp often went over the 200 mark. It never went to the 260 mark, and unfortunately there are no other hashes in between.
