  • Weird Stalling Issue

This is weird. Today I drilled a hole in my firewall for my amp power wire, no problem. Then I had to go somewhere so I drove there and back, no problem. Then I disconnected the battery, connected the amp wire, and reconnected the battery. Now my car will not idle. How the hell does this happen from just disconnecting and reconnecting the battery? I mean it absolutely will not idle. It runs perfect (I floored it through first and second and heard no abnormal noises) and there are no weird noises coming from anywhere. I had my amp wired before but had to move the wire because it was run through where the heater core lines run through the firewall, and I just got a new one. I know I didn't hit anything with the drill (there isn't anything to hit where I drilled the hole). Plus I had to drive it in between drilling the hole and hooking up the wire.

    Help! I need my car!

PS: My car idled perfect (almost) before this.

    RE: Suddenly Won

you can try dissconecting the battery, take out your iac valve, clean it with some tb cleaner, clean the hole it goes into, and move it open and closed a few times then put it back in and hook your battery up. that might work

doesnt' the engine have to re-learn idle after disconnecting the battery?

        RE: Suddenly Won

yes, but the idle should still be really close to what is was before, just a couple hundred rpm difference

Well when it does idle it idles at like 400-500 RPM... maybe I should just let it sit and idle for a bit?

Also it's acting like there's a vacuum leak. I replaced the UIM and LIM gaskets with Fel-Pro gaskets about 2 years ago (~15,000mi). I don't know what else could be causing a vacuum leak, all the hoses are new too (replaced every single visible hose before taking to smog last summer).

              Okay, here's what I've gathered.

Took out IAC, cleaned it and the tb hole for it, put it back in, followed shop manual procedure for idle relearn (let sit above idle for 7 minutes). Still does it. It idles fine if you just start it up... it will idle forever. When you're driving and you press the clutch or drop it into neutral, it won't stall (usually), it only stalls once you've come to a stop (below about 3mph). It will bog, and try to stall, or it will idle really low (~400RPM), and if it bogs too much without stalling, the engine speed will shoot up to like 2500RPM.

              Any suggestions?

                Bump... Anyone have any ideas?

I'm having withdrawl symptoms from not driving my Z... I have to commute in a Euro! So painful... but at least it's an auto and the stereo is decent.

It's weird you can be going 50mph, and depress the clutch or drop it in neutral, and it won't stall... you can coast all the way down to 5mph... once you go below about 5mph it will bog and/or stall.

I had the same problem with my 95 MC Z34. It has an auto. When I would come to a stop sign, it would die. I never figured out the problem but I am 90% done with my engine rebuild; hopefully it doesn't still do it!

I swiched to 97 injectors, changed o2 and I will change the fuel filter again. All new gaskets top and bottom. I wish I could buy a replacement 'kit' for all the vac hoses, maybe check with dealer cuz I do have some cracked fittings and I'm not sure if the duct tape is sealing correctly (I know )

Plus I put a big NOS sticker on the rear windshield so that the engine will rev higher

i dont know anything about tdc motors, other than the obvious. and for all i care, the only power i need goes under the hood. But i know some guy i work with had a honda with a system in it. it put such a drain he had to run his car when he turned it on, or his battery would drain n a few minutes. even with the car running it would strainitself to keep up with the power demands. he replaced his alternator twice....

now this is funny! thescort i had i put 4, 100watt off road lamps around the front plate. thats 400watts! like a midnight sun. with those on, and the headlights, you could hear the engine start to struggle.

your not feeding a big ass short anywhere are you? i guess not since your car hasn't caught fire yet. that kind of strain could cause a crappy idle, but probably wouldnt kill your car
