  • car wants to die when giving it gas

i have a 91 lumina 3.1 i had just replaced sparkplugs and wires as well as an ignition module. and the car ran fine till one of the fans rubbed through one of my wires and the car started to missfire so i replaced it and it still does it. so i replaced one of the coils that the one wire got eaten through on. and still didnt fix the prob. does anybody have any clue what it could be or how i could see if everything is sparking thanks

whats a timing light gonna do when theres no reference mark on the balancer for it? I guess at most it could tell you if spark is going through the wire. Maybe a coil got pissed and friend itself when the wire got ripped? Compare resistance across each coil using an ohm meter to see if they are similar. Its a start. The 3.1 in my beretta went to hell after a spark plug change and I've checked or replaced just about everything suspect and still cant find the problem. Sounds like 3.1s everywhere having spark issues! lol.

doh! just looked at the dohc section from the forum mainpage and saw my name as the most recent post in all three sub categories. reminded me of aaron. lmao! <--literally

This is just a guess. Was your car stalling before you put in the new wires and plugs. I don't think your problem is with the wires, coils or plugs.

Check the fuel system, under hard acceleration if your fuel filter is clogged your get up and go will suffer. Possibly causing your car to stall.

Another idea your fuel pump might have possibly failed. No fuel pressure no gas no go. To change this though you have to drain and drop the fuel tank.
