  • Power Steering Pump ..

Damnit all .. one thing goes wrong after another .. this time Im replacing the damn power steering unit .. cuz u could hear the bearing rattle .. .. but anyway .. has anyone replaced one of these bad boys? If so, wondering how you got the pulley off the pump?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jay

I haven't replaced one on a W body specifically, but you do need a special power steering pump pully puller (aka 3 jaw puller) Keep in mind that if you take it off, you will have to take it to a machine shop with a hydraulic press to put it back on. If you can get away with it, just replace the whole thing. (I don't think you have to remove the pulley to remove the pump unit, do you?)
Okay now, that's enough of that.

Update: This bad boy took me forever .. Tryed using a 3 jaw pulley for about an hour before I gave up and went to my mechanic .. who had the GM tools, and still took him a good 30mins .. The pulley is attached to the pump, and auto stores just carry the pump. In order to put the pulley back on .. it came with a lil kit that had a bolt and a washer and a nut to pop the thing back in place.

Ya, Autozone also has a puller for that pulley which works very easy....
