  • Top End Cleaner

I bought a can of GM Top End Cleaner to clean my valves & heads, and now found an older link that slappy, (i think) put up saying to use the liquid instead of the spray! I can see this now as this motor (DOHC) will not run if i pull off the rubber filter to throttlebody hose, and spray into the throttlebody as i had planned to do.

Can i just pull off the vacuum hose on the front valve cover, and the brake vacuum hose on the back valve cover, and spray into those ports to get the job done?

In the other post it says to use liquid and let one of the vacuume lines suck it out of the bottle. If i was to do that & let it go into the front valve cover vacuum port, would the cleaner also clean the rear head?

    Thanks for any input....Paul

You do not want to run that stuff into your valve covers. I can't begin to imaging what would happen to your oil and other internals for that matter. You do want the can of liquid. The way I did it was disconnected the smaller vac line right underneath the PCV valve line, conected one end of a small rubber line to the plenum and put the other end in the can. Start the car and it should empty the can in no time. The car should stall then wait 10-15 min. Start her up it may take a couple times and watch the smoke roll. If your neighbors are as nosy as mine they will come running out to see if everything is ok, you get some funny looks when you say everything is just fine, as smoke billows down the street

Thanks for the Heads up! I am glad you replied and told me this, as i was going to use the spray in the way i mentioned later today. I will return the spray & see if GM parts dept. will let me swap it for the Liquid.

Thanks again for your help & input...This sight really does help & glad to be a part of it! If my neighbors Bitch, I'll just use the spray in their valve covers...lol

Actually, when I was single, I lived in an old double wide in the woods. I rebuilt a '71 Fiat Spider in the dining room. Brought it in through the patio doors! Landlord didn't mind either, Hell, he built Harleys in his!

Wasn't much chicken. Was a lot of wild turkey and venison, and ungodly amounts of beer. That's how the car got in the dining room. (Good Times) Glad the guy caught you before you put the cleaner in the valve cover. You would be having a DOHC funeral. (And Ben don't care what you call him, as long as you don't call him late for Happy Hour!:P)

Wild Turkey...Now i really do wish i was there...Im not much of a mechanic, but im trying to teach myself & the help from you people is better than knowing 1 good mechanic. (all of the different opinions add up to the things im trying to learn) Yea, now that i think of it, this motor is kinda different than others, as the cams have their own holder, rather than just being part of the heads...If i did it the way i was going to do it, i would have had the most sparkely cams around (even though they might have been as worthless as 4 steel rebars...

              Thanks again, Paul

I'm glad someone here could help. Remember, the stupid question is the one you don't ask. Then something fucks up. And believe me, there have been a lot of stupid questions asked here. Myself included. My ex used to call me a "Know-It-All". (She was wrong)

O.K. then this can't be a stupid question...cause im asking it. Will the Liquid Top End Cleaner hurt my Oxygen Sensor with all of that smoke going past it, as i just changed that bitch, and i don't know about the Monte Carlos & others with this motor, but changing it on the Lumina is the ultimate Bitch. I think the makers of these cars had a good laugh just thinking of the people that would be working on them later on!
