  • Error Code 32???

    Hi...
I was just out in my Z34 this morning. Went grocery shopping. Well on the way my SES light came on. It flashed out code 12,then code 32. I read in the Chilton that it's EGR(Exhause Gas Recirculation). Is this an EGR valve or another sensor? I've been looking in the manual and it dosent show an EGR valve just MAP and othr goodies..
    Any help is apperciated...

EGR valves are expensive, since it is digital. I know a new one for a 3.1L is around $200, dont know about the DOHC

Eek .. These digital EGRs run expensive. I believe AutoZone sells em for about $165 or so. And I seen em cost as much as $300 at NaPa .. I bought my replacement off of ebay for like $40 .. maybe you could try a local junkyard .. make sure to replace the gaskets and scrape off the old ones

Is it affecting your driveability? does it seem sluggish?

Well it hasnt gotten that bad yet. But it has been stalling and my idle is up and down along with oil pressure. So it's defiantly affecting sensors. I took it to the store awhile ago and it ran alright. Seems to be if i have to sit at a light to long. Then it will die. Or when it gets up to temp the SES light starts .... I'll have a look on ebay. OMG they are expensive..... But what else am i gonna do but fix it. I'm going on a drive to Tennessee in a few weeks.

Well how do you turn it off? It runs the car...lol
Plus it's a pretty fgood sign that it wont pass emissions in Tennessee if it's running like that...

That damn code 32 wont leave my system .. replaced it and still get the friggin code (reset PCM before install, and a couple times after that ) .. took it to two GM dealer shops, and they told me my intake EGR to intake was clogged with carbon, so I ripped the upper intake manifold off and it was fine .. no sign of carbon .. let me know if ur buying a new one and if it fixed it ..

You can't tell if the EGR passage is blocked just by looking at it through the top.

The EGR passage on the 3.4 plenum is designed terribly IMO, It's cast into the part, and there's pretty much no real way to clean it out completely with the shape it has. Chemical solvents might break it down enough for you. Try taking off your EGR and nailing the EGR passage through the intake manifold with Carb Medic or something.

If you have a compressor you can tell if the EGR passage really is blocked. Take the rubber intake arm off the throttlebody, and with the EGR off, blast air down through the EGR side of the passage, if you can hear/see it coming down into the manifold then it's not completely clogged, and if you cant, then well, it is.

Yeah, thats what I did, with the air compressor .. the mechanics at the dealer who looked at my car must not of known the design though. Bastards just stole my money

Well, I mean turn the EGR off through the chip. And, no it wont pass emissions, but if you dont have emissions (like me) it doesnt matter. Having no EGR will just keep your intakes clean from all that gunk.

There's a 3.4 EGR valve for sale on ebay right now. I don't know if it's good or not, I just saw the listing.

Just a heads up... chances are you won't find one for a 3.4L in a junkyard... But I called the dealership, and they said that the 3.1L is the same (this is for a '93 btw). I bought one from a junkyard for $40 from a 92 corsica, popped it in, and behold, no more code 32 and no more stalling.
Okay now, that's enough of that.
