  • I have two problems, running rough and low coolant temp.

The car just recently began running very rough. It starts ok, but sounds aweful. When you drive, it has very little power (not even close to what it should have) and it gets a bit of a shudder when trying to maintain 60 mph. It maintains 50 mph fairly well.

The coolant temperature never goes above 125 F. I noticed it one night while I was driving and the temp outside was -6 F. I had been drving for over an hour and the temp gauge only said 125 F. It starts out low, when you first start the car and never rises above 125 F. I bought a new thermostat (thinking that the one in there might be stuck open). I haven't put it in yet but am going to on the weekend.

I haven't tried anything to fix the rough running yet. I am just wondering if the temperature might have something to do with the rough running or if I should look into plug wires and plugs.

    Thanks

Theres millions of possibilites .. can you explain more about your car running "rough" ?
    Any Service Engine Soon codes?

    Loss of fuel economy?

But if you havent changed wires and plugs .. I'd check there first .. make sure they are all on snuggly (also on the coil packs) ..

the mileage makes me want to puke now. I went from getting 300 miles per tank to getting 180 miles per tank. It sounds like it is missing. It stalled once twice last night.

I bought plugs and wires. The wires that are in it were guarenteed for life but i don't have a receipt for them, I hope I don't have to replace them. They are damn expensive.

I don't have a code reader for this car. I have a computer program to read my 1990 blazer computer from the ALDL connector but I am not sure if that will work for this car.

I behaves pretty well exactly the same as if it were running right except it has a lot less power and gets a lot worse mileage.

When I start it, it revs up to about 1100 then slows down after a few seconds. When I am driving and give the accelerator a bit, it jumps a little but it used to break my neck. When I am cruising at 60 mph it I have to make it sownshift to hold it there, but 50mph isn't to bad, but not good either.

When I step on it in park it revs up and slows down well but not quite as snappy as perfect.

Sorry, I don't know what else to describe.

It is a 95 cutlass supreme.

I changed the plugs wires and thermostat newyears eve, before getting wasted. The car works very well again. It has power and heat.
