  • Blew out radiator----

What a ride home from Miami.
While on Alligator Alley, my radiator decides to crack
Dumped all the coolant out. I shoved a rag in the crack (which was right near the drain screw about 1/2 wide and 3 inches long) and went down into a canal and got water and filled the radiator up. Made it as fas at FT. Myers before we were at 260 again. GRRRRR So stop again, fill up and drive another 1/2 hour and fill it up again.
Well at least the Lumy got me home

Has anyone else blown the radiator??????

I had to replace the radiator on a 92 Euro Sedan 3.4 when the el cheapo plastic tank cracked. Got one online for around $130. Wasn't too bad of a job.

You're lucky you got that thing home! Good quick thinking.

The radiator in my mom's 92 Euro 3.1 the part that the upper radiator hose connects to on the radiator broke, and shot coolant all over the place, it broke part of the top of the radiator too. Was a crazy mess. Luckily new radiators aren't too expensive.

This might be off topic a little, but when we had the 85 T-bird 3.8 the first engine died on the 401 highway after it seized up because one of the hoses fell off. Had to replace the engine (stupid move.. oh well)
Second time a hose fell off again but this time in the city and the car was still, so I yelled to my mom to shut it off, otherwise engine #2 would have died. Damn Ford.. its gone now thank god.

I got the new radiator from Perfomance Radiator yesterday.

It was 160 bucks Oh well.

Popped it in last night. The job is very straighforward, really no pitfalls. You do need to remove the fans and air cleaner to get the radiator out.

The new performace radiator is a little wider and has more cores in it. When i did the refill it took over a 1/2 a gallon more water that it usually did. Now the Lumie is running 10 degrees cooler

Not a bad job, just a expensive part
