Def have to pull the intake to do the rear plugs and wires. If you are talking about the timing belt instructions, those part numbers don't help you at all. You need 96/97 parts, though the tensioner may be right. I would just check gmpartsdirect.com for the right parts though.

Actually I was talking about the intake removal instructions. I hear its a different intake but I imagine it has the same removal instructions.

BTW has anyone done a o2 sensor on a 96. Autozone said its a heated o2 sensor, and while understand why it would be heated I have to say holey crap really?

Pics would be nice as well.

I've did mine last year. I rented an O2 tool kit for fun for easier removal. I used the same removal tool that comes in my DOHC 3.4 tool kit And the upper plenum, is a BREEZE to take off. You have to do less work as what the walk through describes here on 60degree V6. I don't have any pics though...

Yeah heated O2's are the way to go, and have been being used for a long long time to my knowledge. I think CCC (computer controlled carburator's) used to one wire dealy, and once OBD I came out, heated started to be used. My 94 SHO has a heated, my 91 Geo has a heated. Ah well...

Sure...labour would be next to nothing anyways. Just get the plugs that GM recommends. Not some crazy plug. Standard AC Delco plugs are JUST FINE for a GM vehicle. If the car has those recalls on it, get them done, and see where that leaves you. At the least, you're only out a set of plugs for the car, and some time.

I didn't. Just removed the front motor mount, pulled the engine forward, and propped the hood up just as far as it would go with a 2x4, and all was good. Dead easy to do, and no removal of ANY intake pieces.

              Just to keep ya updated...

I'm going out today to secure the parts I'll be sure to make sure I pass along the costs just in case other people need the info. I should start working on it tonight providing I don't freeze my ass off.

BTW my Achieva sold so I'm going to switch the new battery to my Monte as well, I noticed there is a resovoir and a crossmember bar over the top of the battery, you just have to wonder what GM techs were thinking when they designed this stuff. I wonder if they actually drive cars or take public transportation because no one with any common sense would design a car that way.

Oh yeah did anyone else have problems registering on MyMonte.com I can't seem to get the activation code for some reason. I also emailed the admin does anyone know who is running the show over there?

Okay today it has started. AND... I have pics.

I'm not done yet as the gasket set from Murrays is missing the one to the throttle body from the plenum. BTW What is the procedure for installing gaskets? I have the gaskets, I have the gasket sealer, but I'm not sure I need the sealer. Anyway what held me up is I forget to get anti-seize for the o2 sensor which by the way is a bitch (I'll have some pics of the 96's location tomorrow) and I forgot to get the thermostat and I think with everything apart it will be easier to do. One thing I think I missed was how hard it was to get at the bolts on the side of the plenum, we ended up taking out the ignition module to get at the far left bolts (not a big deal), we also lost a bolt in there somewhere. With multiple extensions to get down to the spark plug I was worrying about having them get disconnected so I taped them up just to make sure that the trip to get the spark plug and the one delivering one would be trouble free and it was. My engine was extremely dirty and it probably took more time to get the gunk off it than the actual procedure. Here are some pics...(I hope I do this right)

This is the start don't mind my dirty engine I didn't do it the previous owner did it, but I intend to fix it.

This is with the plenum bolts out

Buh Bye plenum notice the ignition modual

Long ass extension (taped up) to get at the spark plugs that are nine miles away.

                Heres a crappy plug

                And another...

Tomorrow I will post more pics for now I have a kerosean high. I bought a big ass ready heater and that made this whole job easier.

Thought I'd let everyone know that I got my Monte all together on Sunday and everything is working fine. I had to make my own throttlebody gasket which was actually kind of fun. The super readyheater made a big difference with the temp below zero. I was nice and toasty in my garage taking my time. The O2 is a pain because it is hard to get it but it got done. I have to admit after this project I gained alot of respect for the 3.4 DOHC, it performing nicely now. The next thing for me to do is locate rattles, fix the drivers side window (won't go down I'm thinking switch), and then start on some upgrades like K&N. I want to thank everyone for their help I really appreciate everything everyone contributed. BTW Anyone know of a way to repaint the valve covers? Or maybe polish them? I still have some big cleanup to do.

BTW if anyone feels the need I am wiseass1976 on aim if ya want to chat about the Monte.

How does that coil pack fit on the upper left hand side of the engine? I have a 3.4 and mine is close to the exhaust manifold, I would like to move mine to the area where yours is so what kind of bracket is yours sitting on?

96-97 Engines have them that way. If you swap your intakes, then you can do the same thing.
