  • HEATER....911...HELP

Just spent all day trying to get heat again.......
    Replaced heater core......
ok got car running, then still no heat....well looked like the lines were clogged, tried forcing 90psi of air through it and guess what not coming out the other end of the line....well bout to give up and then a clogg shoots out and blows air now........get puck back together and get heat but not good heat but better than nothing...well get on the highway then guess what stops blowing warm air and back to cold, Then temps go down from 210 to 130 then back to 210 then back to 130. so i get it home and here i sit.....

Now...Where in the hell can i find new hard lines that go in the engine for the heater core...last time i talked to dealer they told me that all parts for 94 have been disconinued.....

You don't need hard lines, so don't worry about that.

Are you talking about the line from the water pump that routes on the passenger side and the firewall? You can still get that from GM.

yes that line....gonna take a week or 2 to get from gm i just called......

but we are gonna try to cut the line after it comes down from firewall then run heater hose the rest of the way

That is how nico "fixed' it on the cutlass. It worked just the same so as long as you keep it out of the way you should be fine.

What I mean is that it is a perfectly good fix to use regular heater hose. My brother-in-law who is a mechanic said that they would do that all the time with the DOHC's. They would cut the old steel line into a couple peices to make it easier to remove. Then run 3/4" heater hose from the pump to the heater core. He would just use hose mounting brackets in the same screw holes as the old line. Plus side, it will never rust out, will insulate the coolant better, and is like 1/15th the cost of the stocker.

Also, I might add, the steel line is a bitch to install with the alternator and plenum in place. Mine came out in two pieces and was a severe whore to replace.

I suggest you cancel that order from GM and go buy 7-8 feet of heater hose. It makes perfect sense and will save you 50 bucks and a serious headache.

I sanded the rust off mine and painted it again when I replaced mine. Definetly easier with the engine out though:P Probably much easier to run all new flexible hose.

Definatily, easier. I went to all the trouble of spraying my new line with undercoating. Then when I installed it, by the time I managed to jam it in there, I scraped off half the coating anyway. What a bitch.

I had minor problems with mine. Granted it is a PIA.

That pipe is a PIA! But if you do it with the plenum off it would seem to make it alot easier. If I had to do it again I think I would just use heater hose though. Maybe cost 5 bucks compared to 45 for a GM part.

Under coating would be a good idea. If you dent that pipe juuuust right it will clear the altenator pulley. Just barely.
