  • EGR Valve leak- high idle???

Just started my 91 Z34 up after fixing the dreaded o ring. when i bought the EGR valve gasket, i didnt know there was 2 and only bought the upper one....now, i started my car and i can hear it leaking....and my car is idling high...could this cause it? i checked all of the other vacuum lines and stuff and everything is ok. i made sure i put the rubber O ring between the upper and lower intake so no air can be getting into the lower intake through any gasket or seal. I used the Felpro kit that autozone sells for the upper and lower intake gaskets, i torqued the lower intake bolts to 18 ft lbs so i cant have a lower intake leak.... any help appreciated. Thanks! Bill

Yes that would cause a high idle, but IMO it is an unlikely place for a leak. I have never had a problem with it, and I have had my EGR on and off again probly 20 times. But if you can hear it, then I would pull it and replace the gaskets. You might want to use a bit of gasket sealer as well.

the rubber o ring would be for the coolant loop. If you can hear a vac leak for sure check the EGR. I have run into the same thing. Heard that loud hiss and thoght WTF. Looked around and found that when I bolted the EGR bolts down I somehow miss alighned the EGR and adapter plate. Just loosened them up and retightened, VOILA! No leak or bad idle.
