  • Damaged Camshaft?

Went to the mechanic today...took off timing cover and observed movement...

    1. Belt is NOT fried/warped in anyway
    2. Horrible Noise is being made (check WWW tab and vid in page)
    3. They will take the cam carriers off and send to machine shop

Wat could it be? They mentioned damaged camshaft, how can the cam become damged? when they were timing it?

I'm not being a dick, but you don't have a WWW tab up. Aren't you the one that had the vid posted on GMF that someone made the comment that it sounded like Satan was in your engine?

yup thats me! Forgot the www tab, my bad. By the way, on the inside of the cam carriers were the cam rotats, there were visible marks...also on the cam itself at the big area towards the top, it was smooth thru out yet on some areas it was scraped...??? Ill post pics up later on

If you need a cam carrier with cams, I got a spare set sitting here. Ill check the pics though when you get them up. If the lobes on some of them are scraped looking, the lifters are going to be screwed as well.

the lobes dont look scraped, but like normal wear & tear....smooth looking though

I cant get the pics cuz they ugly as hell, took them wit my camera phone

How much would you want for the carrier/cams? If the bolt/cam is still wiggly i might take you up on your offer

35 plus shipping. I have no idea what shipping is yet but I can find out if you want them. Which carrier is it you need?

You could just try and polish them up. It doesn't look that bad but i could be wrong just lookin at that pic.

i got the car back, doesnt stumble as much as it used to, but it still vibrates some...im thinking the timing is off by like a degree or something. Anyway to ensure the timing is right?

You would have to take the plenum off and check the cam flats. a degree or 2 wouldn't be doing that, unless one bank is a few degrees advanced and the other is a few degrees retarded. It takes an irregularity to make the minor differences noticeable.

well i aligned the flats right now, all marks point to were their suppose to be. The car is not misfiring, the exhaust sounds perfect, its just the vibration. I know the FFP dogbone will not cauz that much vibrations. The engine vibrates, noticable movement. Coil? CPU? O2 sensor? If not the timing, then wat could it be? Im taking my vid cam on the road right now to record its nonsense

If it was a coil, you would have poor performance. If the car is performing ok, then it vould be the dogbone. Ill have to see the vid though to get a better idea. O2 and CPU...i doubt it.

Just came back from running her, and WOW! Runs like a top...

I ran a simple 0 - 90. Eased it it and just dropped the hammer. One thing about the run though, the "CHECK GAUGES" light was on the whole time. I'm converting it right now to wmv from my digicam but you'll see the little light come on.

There are some things still wrong though...the horrible noise which started my whole timing belt dilema is still present, not as ugly sounding but its there. Wat it could be, i dont know...But could it possibly damaged something? The intermediate shaft was inspected, OK, the inter. cam sprocket was repaced as was the timing chain and tensioner...then all the idler pullies and tensioner and belt was also replaced so wat that sound is coming from is beyond me.

I took another vid which i will also post..its starting the car..it starts and the RPMS go to about 1.4 float there for awhile then fall to 1.2K shudders then after wat seems like 2 to 5 min, it falls back to normal...shuderring is felt but again im assuming the dogbone is doing its job....

Other than that, i wanna really thank you for your support, knowledge, but most importantly, patience with me! lol...Im still thinking about the cam carriers cuz 2 of the 4 cam gear bolts are oscillating which makes me nervous...

p.s-the mechanics who did the job DID NOT KNOW about the lockring!!!! So how in the fuck did they get the timing right? Could that be the prob? When the carrier was out, one of the mechanics mentioned a "busshing" then i took out the lockring and they acted like "yeah, that thing" but one of the mechanics had a look of "JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!"
