Anyone know how hard it would be to change the timing belt on the DOHC? Thinking of having it done before it goes, that could mean new engine, right???

depends on what rpm the engine is at when it breaks. if it breaks at a real high rpm it could bend the valves. doesn't mean it will cause the 95 isn't an interference engine but i have heard of the valves getting bent anyway.

go to maintenance and you will see a picture walkthrough for the timing belt procedure. That should tell you how hard it is.

Dealer will probably charge you a grand and not even change the pullys and tensioner.

Yeah I have a feeling I am going to get ripped on this thing, but i guess its better than letting my engine go to hell

When I did my gaskets I thought about taking it to the dealer but then i seen the step by step procedure for the DOHC right here on this website, it quickly changed my mind. You might want take a look.

Yeah, and shops have a tendancy to butcher these motors too.

there the only place that will work on my car. everywhere else says they won't touch it. and besides my appartment's manager won't let me work on my car here. i got fined the last time i did anything to it. they said that it makes the appartments look trashy snd they can't have that.

the shop i seen in action was pretty bad they have a endency to use liquid gasket on your existing ones instead of springing for new gaskets.

My dealer (Sunnyvale Chevrolet) only wanted something like $500 for the timing belt. Minus tensioners and pullies.
