  • 91 Z34 O-Ring HELP!!!!!!!!

ok, ive had my z for over a year, took it off the road and bought a 2000 GTP. now that winter is coming around, i dont wanna run my GTP Sooo i have to fix this Oil leaking o-ring that has leaked since day one when i bought the car. I've been putting this repair on hold due to the amount of work involved...i've finally grown enough cahoons to dig in. So, plenum is off, lower intake is off and fuel rail is off.....leaving one sad lookin dummy shaft with oil all around.... i tried following Jar's procedure posted over at the Lumina Z34 message board. Heres what i did. I started out by taking my dremel and filing the cap down. I filed it down about a 1/4" on one side and rounded that side off. I filed just over 1/4" off on the bottom of the plank where the lower intake bolts to the head covering the shaft...what am i doing wrong here? i got the shaft to slide up a lil over an inch, but its still in there....i dont wanna take anymore off the head because i dont wanna affect the clamping on the head for the lower intake.....what do i do? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME OUT OF THIS MISERY!!!!

alot of peeps might frown on this but all i did to fix mine was lift it up until it hits the head and ran a bead of liquid gasket, put the dist thingy back down and rotated it a couple turns to get the gasket stuff worked in, left it for 24 hours, bolted it back down and all was good.

Thats like what I did... except I only gooped high-temp silicone all around it.

it has been a while, but i believe all i had to pull was the plenum and after i pulled the plenum, all it took was about 5-10 minutes. mine was the gray gasket stuff. ahhh rtv black the cure for the common dipstick.

Room Tempature Vulcanizing silicon sealent is good for LOTS of things - oil pans, valve covers, waterbed's (don't ask, it was years ago)

has anyone tried the maglight o-ring fix - if so.. how'd that work for em?

I used an old Chevy distributor gasket and siliconed the hell out of it after cleaning it up really nice with Brakleen. Still nice and dry after 1.5 years.
