  • idle screwed up

I have a 95 monte z34 and when i start the car in the morning the rpms go up to 3000 or so and then it will die if i dont give it gas. Every forum that ive read says vaccum or intake leak, but when the engine is at normal operating temp it seems to purr like a kitten. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I'm just triing to narrow down the problem. thanx!!!

Intake gasket. When it heats up, the gasket expands and seals properly.

The only code that ive pulled is the front bank o2 sensor which i havnt changed yet. I plan on changing it when i do the intake gaskets if i can get to it.

I sprayed a little intake cleaner at the upper gasket by the injectors and the idle changed alittle but not much, could that mean there is a leak there? oh yeah the car was warm too.

Try spraying it when the car is cold. Like Ben said, the gaskets expand when warm and seal better.

I plan to change the gaskets regardless if thats the problem or not. Probably this weekend if weather permits. Does anyone know what needs to be changed like oil or coolant ect.

Nah, not for intake gaskets. You will lose a little coolant but probably nothing to worry about unless you have nothing in your overflow bottle.

Thanks, I got the plenum off the car tonight, going to finish up tomorrow. The mounting plate above throttle and cruise control cables made it a bitch to get off, but with a little patience, it took me about 30 mins. not bad for first timer! lol

That sounds exactly like the problem my car has idles right high the first time you drive it for the day then it works good after that. I havn't been able to figure out the problem yet.

Got the intake gaskets changed and the car is purring like a kitten. Took me about 3 1/2 hours total, nothing to big the lower gasket looked fine but i changed them anyways. Thanks everyone for the input.
