it is leaking around that cover that covers up the flexplate. i took it off and felt some more fluid in the bellhousing area. can torque converters leak fluid? and what do u do to fix it?

HELP! tranny fluid leak

well i might have to recant on the splined shaft leaking cause if it were leaking from a rotating part fluid would be going everywhere the leak is localized to right above where that plastic covers right above where the tranny lines bolt up to. but it is still originating from inside the casing though. The Official Rotating Mass Nazi

unfortunately you are right bud36light.
i talked to a couple techs and they advised me it is the front main seal or the pump seal for the fluid to be coming out of the bellhousing. most likely the front main seal.
i don't know shit about trannies and i find out NOW that it is best to lubricate this seal be4 u reassemble an engine/tranny. that and the fact i switched to a 3k stall converter on the swap, so it was dry and didn't have any residual lubricant on it either. i was told that i either ripped it or burned it on a dry start.
I only have 1 shot. a friend of mine is coming over this week. he says i can try brake fluid to swell the seal. but he wants to do it cause he says if i use too much brake fluid i might fuck up the tranny.
man this blows i have to pull the engine/tranny again!!!!!
if i do this POS will be shelved to next year cause i am tired of looking at it for awhile.
how come no1 tells me these things until after the fact(the guy that sold me the stall could have let me in on this little tidbit). live-n-learn i guess. The Official Rotating Mass Nazi

Torque convertor is filled with fluid, and is not surrounded by it. If it is leaking out of your flex plate cover... 75% front seal...25% front pump O-ring or gasket. Only other choice is a drain plug in the convertor itself, which is only added from a tranny shop on these models. (You can install one of these yourself, it's a good thing.) DON'T DO THE BRAKE FLUID THING!! You will be sorely sorry! You think it leaks bad now? That is an old "Used Car Dealer" trick. It will toast your tranny! Best bet is to fix it.If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

well, i got the engine/tranny out yesterday and found the cause. yes, the seal was the cause of the massive leak but the reason the seal went out was a bearing in the stall converter failed. causing the converter to move around and compromise the seal.
i knew it was too good to be true, 200 for a 3k stall. i had some1 check the input shaft on the tranny and thank god it is ok. but this faulty part has cost me time to remove then engine again, money for coolant, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, transmission seal and on top of that i have to drop the tranny pan and install a new filter and flush the converter to get rid of metal particles from the faulty part.
and i am apprehensive about even putting the stall back in so i will have to spend even more time and money at the junkyard getting a replacement torque converter. perhaps i can talk the vendor that sold me the stall to at least replace the damn bearing.
What do you guys think, should i try to repair the stall or do away with it?The Official Rotating Mass Nazi
