  • WTF won't crank

i made it to the point where i could crank it. it fires up, but can't hold an idle. 1 possible culprit is the firing order, i have the order set at 1-4-6-3-2-5. i can't remember which bank is which. right now i have the rear bank set as the odds and the front bank set as the evens, is that right?

i get no codes from the scanner. any input? fires up, runs for about 10 sec and dies. i can keep it alive by opening the tb slightly.

anyway i cranked it a few times and when i tried again it won't turn over!!!!

i hear the starter actuate but it won't turn the engine over. the only noise i heard when i fired the engine was lifter tick from it sitting a while, i tried using a breaker bar on the crank pulley but to no avail. after which i removed the drive belt and removed the front 3 sparkplugs, but still nothing.

can engines do that? crank, run, then freeze? did i end up with a lemon engine?

This is just a thought. Did you just install a new timing belt? If so it may be to tight.

hmph some how some way the battery ran down. i guess i was making a mountain out of a mole hill. but do i have the banks right and what about the crappy 10 sec idle?

some1 mentioned an intake leak. any other suggestions?

An intake leak wouldnt cause it to die... it would cause it idle really high then throw a code.

Charge up your battery and try it again.

got a new battery and it does fine as far as starting but it idles up to about 3k and dies no unusual codes either. the only codes i get are a/c pressure switch cause it is bypassed and a trans range sensor circuit malfunction code i have had these codes since i have had the car.

also does your tb on your 96/97 whistle dykz34? it is very loud and i wonder if it is coming from somewhere else. at this point i am considering 4 options the ecm, the icm, the wiring to the iac/tps, or some kind of vacuum leak. possibly where the egr conversion meets the tb neck or where the tb neck meets the plenum.

let me hear your input on this.appreciate it.

tps seems good: when pedal is not pushed it reads 0% throttle angle and 0.54vdc when floored it reads 4.33vdc and 99% throttle angle

iac not sure about accepted operating range: when ign is set to on it reads 90 steps and when it runs briefly it jumps to about 134 steps.

i will switch out the icm shortly and let u know on that. if that doesn't work i will remove the tb neck and 1 reseal the tb neck gasket and 2 remove and plug the egr

if none of that works i will go to the junkyard soon and get another harness for the fuel inj/idle circuit.

finding another ecm will be difficult at best cause i don't see any 94's or 95's last time i looked.
