  • immediate help needed!! tranny

hey, I was comming home from school today, all the sudden, my tires chirp fro no reason at all, and my tranny starts slipping. In every gear as soon as I give it a little gas it will slip. I f I slowly accelerate I can move it, that's about it. Any one have any thoughts? Where should I take this to get fixed, GM or a tranny shop?

I think that anyone here will agree, if it slips, it is toast. I have experience here. If you get the rebuild, make DAMN sure they pull the differential apart and install a hardened pin. Save another headache. See my previous posts on the 4T60E. I can trash a tranny faster than you can say................whu? Since you are in Canada, I can't give advice as to where to get your work done. I had mine done at a reputable tranny shop for $750, and GM here will hit you for about 2 Grand.

fuild levels are fine. Just checked them last week, and I checked again as soon as it started acting up. Its being towed over to a tranny specialist as I speak, had it at GM, they said anything mechanical in the internals and it would be $2000

So I said screw that and took it elsewhere, have to wait and see now

ok, so what Ive found out is that 2nd 3rd, and OD are shot, as well as reverse, I forget exactly what they said. To completely rebuild I'm looking at $2700 Can plus taxes. That comes with a 1 year 50000K warranty, new seals and gaskets everywhere, new torque converter (apparently also shot somehow?) all replacement parts and labour. I believe there was also something else that they said was shot, I can't remember what. Its likely to do with when I hit a set of ruts in the summer on a gravel road and ripped a wholein the bottom of the pan, knew I should have went after the RM for not posting signs in a constructions zone, all they did then was replace the pan that was torn to shreds

so, am I bending over and taking it? cuz it sure feels like I am

You aren't bending over any farther than anyone else has. Not sure of the Am/Can exchange rate though.

I guess the $2700 is Canadian? If that includes pulling and sticking it back in then it should make you feel better because doing it in your drive way with a floor jack is time cosuming and really a fucking bitch. But still do able.

Check ebay, they have rebuilt 4T60-E transmissions for 600 bucks plus shipping.

what do you guys always search for on ebay for these cars, when ever I try finding something I never can. I tried putting "4t60-e" in the search field and I get nothing. Am I being too specific or what?

I always use terms like "GM DOHC" or "GM 3.4l" or "3.4l DOHC" or "Pontiac grand prix" or like "GM supercharger" for tranny's you could try "GM V-6 transmission" or something like that. Avoid specifics, most people posting don't have the brains to post that type of info. Other options would be searching for vehicals that have your drive train. Like "Chevrolet z-34" or "z34" or "Olds cutlass supreme". Most of the best finds require a shit-load of sifting through. I found a couple cool things on the 30th page of sifting.

Be careful what you ask for here! I remember right after I first joined this place I asked the same question about e-bay and got something along the lines of " if I tell you then I'll have to kill you".
