Which software to monitor LQ1?

Hey guys,

I've got a '92 TDC 5-speed with the 16149396 ECM. I hear this is closely related to the 7727, 7730, & 8262 ECMs, and I have an 8262 in another of my cars where I do diagnostics with Datamaster $8D. I tried it with my cable hooked up to pins A and M on the ALDL (ground & data) with Datamaster, but its readings were wrong. When I tried it with Freescan, it just dumped a whole bunch of invalid data and then crashed. What software works with this car? I'd really like to try troubleshoot the stalling & idle trouble I'm having with it from the inside out.

Freescan works (Ben will pitch in and tell which option to use), Diacom works, and Efi-Live V4 works.

Tried EFILive V4 with the DF file for '91 LQ1 but it didn't work either. I don't see a def file for '92 but I thought the '91-93s were the same.

They are the same. freescan works, use 410B, set to interact and hit force data...once every 3 seconds if it doesnt work right away. Also, try changing the ms delay from 100 to 50 to 25 if it doesnt wanna work. If your OS is crashing, then it may be your operating system. I have used 98SE, 2K, and XP though im having issues with XP at the moment...might be my cable.

Aha, that's helpful. I was using the "GM 816B" 1992 Pontiac 3.2 as it listed the 3.4L LQ1 VIN-X as a supported platform for it. I'll try it with the 410B module instead and see if it works. Thanks!

It worked! But running under XP, it still crashes after just a few minutes. Haven't tried any other OSes but that's all I have on this laptop. I have version 2.1.0 of Freescan.

I believe that is the version I am using. I can't get it to keep the connection more than a second. Ill probably install another OS on my other laptop and see how that works.

Yeah, it's doing that to me now too. I've got an older Win98 laptop I can try it on instead.

With XP, you can go into Properties and change what "version" OS to run it as... you can say open it as a Windows 98 program... it might be worth a shot.

I'll try that. But it didn't work any better on my Win98 laptop either. This is an 8192-byte datastream, right? And you only need pins A&M? Somethin just ain't right, I can't get it to work on XP anymore now either.
