  • coolant leak

Haven't had to post forever cuz this car keeps goin and hasn't broke down in so long. It began with temp gauge fluctuating between 150-190 degrees. It never overheated but the heater put out no heat. Thought heater core, then noticed coolant on ground. Changed thermostat and pump, fired her up ran okay, fluid pouring out behind where water pump is mounted. Pretty steady leak, but at least the heater workshttp://60degreev6.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.png. Is there a gasket where the water pump housing is mounted to the block. Cant find any breakdown images of the mount that holds water pump and a/c comp. Can I pull the housing off without having to disassemble timing belt? No coolant in oil so I figure its not a head gasket or cracked block.Any suggestions, not a candidate for rebuild. Not worth the money, but if I can get to the leak without major overhaul I'll tackle it.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that the front cover gasket has failed and that's where your leak is. The engine despite the heads & the cam timing assembly still has a front cover/gasket with the intermediate shaft chain drive behind it.
The coolant pump passages seal with the gasket. To replace that gasket is a major pain as the entire front cover (that large alloy casting) that supports the entire cam timing assembly, the alternator, the A/C compressor has to come off to get at the gasket, part # 329.

Yeah 55 , I pulled up that view and hoped it would be an easy fix. Not looking that way though. I'll tear into it this week to see if I can get it fixed. I have other vehicles but this was my always reliable daily driver. It does look like all I have to do is pull all the drive components off and unbolt, wont be fun but it might be doable. Thanks for the feedback.
