  • Car dies when redlined.

I was driving my brothers 91 gtp auto. and the rebuilt motor has about 2000km on it now and today i floored it and it redlined then shifted into 2nd and when it hit about 5k rpm it started to choke so i let off the gas and it died. it coasted to a stop sign and i went under the hood, it was getting spark, and it looks like the fuel rail had pressure in it, and it just wouldnt start, so i thought maybe it was the fuel pump ( i dont know why) so i switched the relays with the a/c one and bam the car fired up. so i drove it away and when i hit 5k rpm it did it again, but this time i kept throtling it and it stayed running and it was fine. so then i get down my street and i hit 5k rpm again and it started choking again so i throtled it again and it stayed running but it felt like it was misfiring, so i pulled into my driveway and it died and it coasted to the parking spot. so i left it there, and now it starts up fine, but i wont dare take it on the street, so i drove it to my garage and its gonna stay there until i find out whats wrong. any suggestions??? thanks

    Any SES light??

Sounds as if it might be one or two injectors, or pressure regulator.

Last summer i changed the filter, and man that was a bitch, the braided line wnet bad where the fitting is supposed to turn on the line and it started pissing fuel everywhere. so i fixed its ass with a piece of heater hose and some hose clamps! yeah its kinda rigged, but it doesnt leak! i bought a new filter for it too, so im gonna change that tommorow probably. but today i changed all the injectors and fuel rail and regulator assembly. and the car runs perfect, the best its ran with the new motor. two of the old injectors were leaking fuel i think, because when i took them out the 2 were dripping fuel from the tips. i had a feeling it was the injectors because when i started it up when it was giving me problems it would smell like pure gasoline. i hope this is now fixed, i also changed the spark plugs which still looked like brand new because they were installed with the new motor. i doubt the plugs were the problem but i am just trying to eliminate things.
