  • Attn 3.4 owners: A little help w/dipstick lenght

    Hello,

I swaped from the 3100 engine to the 3.4 DOHC in my 97 Lumina.

I replaced the Automatic Transmision Fluid tube too, but the dipstick remains the same.

But this combo "3.4 transmision dipstick tube + 3100 dipstick" don't work because 3.4 and 3100 dipstick have different lenghts (my big mistake).

The 3100 dipstick lenght is: 26.2 inch. (66.5 cms.) from top (top of red circle) to bottom.

Someone could help by measuring the 3.4 transmision dipstick length (from top of red circle to bottom)?.

With this help I could calculate the exact diference between 3100 & 3.4 dipstick in order to check my ATF level.

    I will appreciate any help.

    Thanks in advance,

    Denis V.

Engine doesn't matter. What transmission did you swap? 4T65 instead of stock 4T60E?

      Hi,

      My stock combination was:

      3100 engine + 4T60E + 3100 trans. fluid tube (short) + 3100 trans. fluid dipstick

      My new combo is:

      3.4 DOHC engine + 4T60E + 3.4 DOHC trans. fluid tube (large) + 3100 trans. fluid dipstick

Since the 3100 to 3.4 swap is a big change into engine bay, the trans. fluid tube must be swapped too (the stock 3100 tranny tube is not compatible with the 3.4 DOHC size).

I discovered the difference when I did the first ATF level measurement.

Any one can help me with the 3.4 dipstick lenght?

      Thanks,

      Denis V.

        97 3100 trans dipstick into 95 3.4 It works?

Why don't you just go to a junk yard and get the right dipstick?
