can the 3.4 dohc take a beating? or the timing belt for that matter... seems like flooring it somewhat often would take a toll on the timing belt, and what exactly causes the alternators to crap out?

i think a lot of LQ1s live a good portion of their lives at >50% throttle and take it with relative ease.

Throttle position has essentially no effect on belt life.

RPM may have some effect, but is it enough to notice?

CS130 alternators fry because they were a horse-sh!t design from day one; placed into an engine compartment with more-than-normal heat load.

          The CS130D is much improved.

Nobody would care about alternator life if they were easy to replace. The double-whammy of crappy alternator in a crappy location is what messes with people's heads (and wallets).

Its 2 10mm bolts to check the belt. You can change it every 20k if you want to be safe. You should check the timing quite often for a racing application, to be sure you have the exact timing front and back due to belt stretch. Its noticeably off by 60k. Also you have the 96 belt option such as what the engine in the video above has. More teeth, and they are all round, not "square".

looks like 94-end used the CS130D.

Is the D plug and play or is it a different style plug?

different plug. all of the pins are the same size on the D, the non-D has a large connector on one of the sides. i just soldered the D connector in parallel with the original connector.

Are you saying the CS130D can be installed where the original CS130 was, if the connector is changed?

I thought the bolt spacing on the case was different, and wouldn't fit the earlier timing chain/accessory cover of the 3.4.

That's exactly what I'm gleening from it.

I have no idea on bolt spacing though. I don't have a 96 engine to compare with.

this may be the case..... but i'm using a 91 wiring harness with a 95 engine, which is why i needed to add in the newer connector.

Ahhh. I'm sure the new 130D will not fit the older bracketry. Have not seen one in-the-metal, though.
