  • Sooo confused!!!

Ok, here's my new issue. My coolant low dummy light has been on now for a bit. It started a few months ago and after checking, I found a small leak at the plenum hose. Having never done anything there before you could imagine my surprise to find that the fitting had been boken off and JB welded back into place. I fixed that but still had that light staring at me. It would go off after driving for a while but would come right back after turning off the car. I tried "burping" the car and removing and flushing the resovoir. No change.

well the light stopped going off and the coolant level is unchanged. I read somewhere that it could be a sign of a intake gasket failing if the coolant level is changing, oil level keeps dropping and you get certain error codes. My oil is dropping, the only error code I get is EGR circuit, and there is no sign of coolant burning or mixing in the oil.

    Any Advice?

could be a bad sensor as well.. just a thought. it should be on the passanger side in the middle of the radiator.

The sensors are crap and get gummed up all the time. Mine's stuck on the 92 so I've left it unplugged for quite a long time since the car didn't use or leak coolant.

My '92 lit the low-coolant light for a couple of months. Coolant wasn't low, and disconnecting the harness to the sensor did not turn off the light.

After a couple of months, the light went out on it's own. Still lights during bulb-test, so it's not just a popped lamp. The car healed itself--or--I'm the Oral Roberts of auto repair.

on the 95 MC, the light will blink on and off a couple of times, ~10 seconds go by and it will start blinking again, repeat... normal operation of the light is on or off, it's not supposed to blink in a pattern.

only happens during very high(80+ *F) ambient temps. the ABS light actually did this for a while too before i just completely pulled it(along with the EBCM)... if i smack the top of the dash, it would usually stop it too.

          flaky clusters = FAIL.

FYI for anyone else who's having this problem. I went out this morning and was gonna try burping the system again. I started the car and opened the valve and then shoveled the driveway. 15 minutes later, antifreeze still hadn't really began to flow. I closed the valve and waited a few moments (puzzled) then tried to burp it again. This time I tried to squeeze the air outta the hose. The hose was squishy and still kinda cool (?). Then I checked the radiator cap, no pressure. I began to fear that my water pump was going or thermastat was stuck. Chick at O'riely's threw out another possibility- RADIATOR CAP!!!!!! Long story short, the cap was bad and the coolant level sensor was a casualty. HINT:Make changing that part of your yearly maint!!!!

That cap lasted up till now and you want to buy a new one every year? If it's a good quality cap it will be the last one you will need on this car.

I have a cooling system pressure tester. I use it to help track coolant leaks (much easier to hear a leak with the engine off ). I can also test caps with it and have found a couple that were bad. I'm glad I never took that kit back to AutoZone, its been way too handy to have around.

You rented it and kept it?

                    Yea.

When you rent it you pay full price, that way of it doesn't get returned they can buy a new one. I let them know up front I was keeping it so they gave me a brand new one.

I also got an o2 sensor socket kit and a block tester that way. (it detects exhaust in the radiator in the case of a blown head gasket)

Exactly right. CHANGING the cap every year is nuts. TESTING the cap every year makes sense, and should be part of routine maintenance.
