So the Monte started burning oil at a accelerated rate. In my mind at 1 quart every 500 miles with a smoke trail flowing you around my mind its blown or needs rebuild. Iv been job less for a while so I got a job starting in 2 weeks for general dynamics so I need a car that's a good runner. So I looked at my spare engine for a week and decided to pull the trigger.
Took 15 hours to swap found my 6 puck clutch was hosed and the spare engine hasn't been run in 4 years and stored out side covered. But the good thing about the 6 puck clutch is I got it rebuilt in 20 min for 70$ well I had lunch and the fly wheel machined flat. The pressure plate looked perfect. spent most of my time repainting and degrease in parts. I changed the oil refiled the filter took the plugs out put a cap of marvel mystery oil in each cylinder primed it with the starter cranked it for 40 sec. I checked the compression the numbers were a little goofy my guise is crap on the cylinder walls from sitting. All check them again after a week of running.
The first start not alot of smoke out the tail pipes to my surprise but what concerned me was the bad lifter tick I was hearing out of like number 1 or 3cyl. Took it for a short ride half mile from my house lifter tick cleared and drove it a little further and to my surprise shes happy. The clutch felt great and drives a lot better. So hopefully this will get my to work for a few months so I can save for a new daily driver.
