  • wanna make some bets?

Doing a few tests to the Hoop Deville to see how much torcher the turbo has put her threw in her old age. 160,000 miles 7psi (turboed at 95,000).

    1st test: Dry Compression
    2nd test: Wet Compression
    3rd test: Leak down

Ive got my fingers crossed.... hoping the worst is Good rings, Leaky valve seals and HG's starting to go. she eats coolant, leaks oil and smells like burnt oil from time to time.

All take a bet that your valve seals are leaking and your head gasket went. Iv been running 8.5 psi for 19k and 7 for 22k. Lq1 is alot stronger then people give it credit for.

    96 Z34 3.4 SC DOHC Getrag, 284 5sd manual transmission, stage 3spec clutch, 97 engine, 97 pcm, S3 intercooler 1 of 1 Roots SC LQ1 in the world 8.5 psi.

Well i didnt do the Leak down.... I already know the HG's are starting to leak (crusty around head/block and drinks a little coolant) but not into the oil. But i got the Compression test done... 60-70K miles turboed (7psi) here is what i turned up. Looks Like im going to have to keep if for a bit longer, the bottom end looks good, just need to reseal the top end and run the piss out of it.

Grab a cooling system pressure tester and listen for a hiss when you pump it up to about 16-18 psi. Maybe even go as far as to stick a some vac hose to your ear and stick it in each spark plug hole to see if you can hear it hissing past the HG. It may actually just be a leak somewhere else as far as coolant loss goes. How much coolant does it go through? Besides #6, I would be happy with those numbers dry vs wet.
