  • cylinder replacement

It appears the 3.4 dohc has a bad head gasket and a "weak cylinder"
Can a cylinder be replaced, or is it tha valves that are bad? This is a result of a timing blet coming off the pulley.
What might I pay to have this work done?

    Thanks guys,
    R

If you have a head gasket leaking, it could just be the gasket and not the valves. As for the cylinder, do you mean weak as in not having as much compression as the rest? I am assuming so. To me that would say that the head gasket can not hold the pressure in the cylinder, and the pressure is leaking into something else, like the cooling system or oiling system, giving you a lower reading on a compression gauge. Does your car spit out steam out of the tailpipe? Does it use more oil then normally all of the sudden? Does the oil smell like gas? Is your coolant level always getting low with no visible leaks?

Yes, those are the symptoms. The coolant goes low alot and she always get messages in the dash about it, she has to check the oil alot too becuase its uses alot as well, and it shoots out smoke/steam etc upon startup but then goes away.

If you pay to have it done, ouch...ill guess 750. I think someone else paid 1300....so yeah, you got a high price job on your hands. Thats to do the head gasket.
