  • HELP!!! key switch?

Today I was cleaning the inside of my car, and I went to start it to move it, and I get nothing. I turn the key to start to car, and nothing happens, a couple of the lights come on inside the car, but the car does not start. If I turn the key backwords, nothing comes on either. I can start the car with my command start though. When the car is started with the command start, I put the key in the ignition, turn it forward, and nothing. I can't shut the car off with the key, but I can by hitting the brakes to activate the safety device on the command start. What kind of a problem is this?

    thanks in advance

Does your key have a little black "chip" in it, close to the ring part? If so, your car has a factory anti-theft system that uses a little resistor pill in the key. If it does not see the resistor when the key is turned (bad contacts, broken wire, ect.) it will not allow the car to start. The reason the remote start would work on a car with it is because when they install the system, they measure the resistor, and install one inline with the remote start module and the anti-theft system. Otherwise, your ignition switch, or park/neutral saftey switch could be bad. Reason I say the P/N switch is because they could have wired the remote start in on the ECM side of the P/N switch, instead of the ignition switch.

No problem. I forgot to mention if it was the P/N switch itself, sometimes you can get it to work by moving the shifter back and forth, or slam it in to park (well not slam, but firmly move it, lol).
