How do the lock rings come out. They appear to be similar to a cone washer on an old toyota front axle. With those you could drive a screw driver in and they would pop out. I tried that on this thing and it wouldn't budge. I'm here for the advice, so whats the best way to pop them loose? One other thing...I truly appreciate you fella's help on this. I wouldn't have got it done right without it.

tap on the back of the gear and also the screwdriver wedge and pray deal. Sometimes they suck, sometimes they pop right out.

Guess I need to do some more praying. Whats the deal with the hydraulic tensioner. All I have to do is put oil in the thing? Why does no one sell a new one? Is the plug on the back?

You can get new ones last I checked...but its been a while. Parts are probably getting harder to find. Oil goes in the back and there should be a plug, yes. The paperclip goes through the side to hold it in position once you have it retracted. If the plug is missing, you can use silicone.

Ok, I'm in need of some help. I just got the belt so I went back out to work on this thing. I'm trying to get the cam gear off and now the whole cam is trying to come out. That gear will not come out. Whats the deal? What was holding the cam in place? Whatever it was is broke now. I assume there is a c clip on the other side. Is there a procedure for getting this gear off.

Its not a C clip. You need to pull the end plate off and see where the metal piece that bolts inside there to hold the cams in place has gone. Its not a thin piece...so something is VERY fucked if you can pull the cam out. That or someone else neglected to reinstall, which is not a good sign.

Considering it's a 95, I hope it's the gear and the collette coming off, not the whole cam coming out.

Thats a first for me and unfortunately that is the front intake cam. Its a 94-95 only item. Looks like it may not cause any damage to the rest of the motor like that though. Ill see if I have one. I know I have a set of 91-93.

I can't tell you all how much I love being the first to do this. I did notice that the cam gear was on its way off. I'm assuming I can just replace this cam and be on my way. Is the front of the motor considered left or right. Sappy I hope you have one. I refuse to be nice and help anyone ever again! I also believe the cam gear removal technique I use will be modified in the future.
