  • Brake Warning Light

Stumped here. Changed the alternator and now the dashboard brake warning light is lit all the time. I followed the recommended procedure, removing the wheel bearing, CV joint/halfshaft, this went just fine.

    Symptom/reproduce:
-Insert key and turn to run, brake warning light is lit.
-Turn Key to start, car starts brake light blinks once or twice VERY RAPIDLY then remains lit, but brighter than when engine is not running.
-Car stops just fine, there are no puddles or leaks anywhere.

    Troubleshooting:
-Checked brake fluid level, it was fine, added just the smallest amount to be sure, no change.
-Removed R front wheel and checked wheel sensor wire for possible damage during alternator repair..nothing obvious.
-removed the brake fluid level sensor connector..no change in behavior of the light
-with fluid level sensor disconnected, all light behavior is the same.
-while disconnected, shorted the 2 connectors on the fluid level sensor. The light did not blink and remained lit at the same level after starting the engine.

    Any ideas?

What about the park brake lever switch?

Thought of that. Unable to find any such switch. Schematic for 93 Z34 indicates only the fluid level switch and brake module are connected to the warning lamp (94 and later indicate the parking brake switch). In addition, the parking brake was not applied before or during the alternator repair and applying the parking brake doesn't change anything.

      Thanks for the reply.
