  • Cooling problem...

It started last weekend, was driving for a couple of miles when I saw the temp up to 230 and then the warning light came on. As I slowed down and pulled it into the driveway the temp drastically dropped. I opened the hood and the overflow tank was full. So I let it sit, then a couple days later I ran it and the cooling seemed fine.( Fan ran as it was supposed to and temp stayed about 180) So I figured that this anomoly was that the thermostat had stuck closed and changed it yesterday. After changing it and making sure the system was bled properly I have been getting this same problem. The water temp does not reach 180 degrees according to the gauge when the fan comes on, and it does not shut off when the temp is between 140 and 160. I have a feeling it may be a bad temp switch, but not sure how it could suddenly mess up after changing the stat and flushing the system. Any suggests would be helpful.

The half way mark on the temperature gauge is really closer to 210*F. It's hard to judge what the ACTUAL temp is by that. What temp stat do you have?

195 degree. The car seemed to heat and cool just like th 92 as far as the guages read until the initial overheating problem.

I changed the temp sensor today and still get the same problem, the ecm was unplugged and then reset as well.

        Cooling

Hey buddy Here is what you do. I had the same problem. My car overheated and would leak antifreeze. I changed the thermostat still heating problem.

        Diagnosis: BAD WATER PUMP.

2-3 hours will change the pump you can find one for 20 to 40 dollars.

You will need gasket sealer and will need to bleed the coolant system.

The really cool thing that I noticed when I changed the WATER PUMP.

            More battery voltage.

Results: The water pump is like a viscous load bearing.

When you replace it your whole serpentine belt assemblage works more efficiently

Therefore helping your alternator do what it is supposed to do charge your battery.
