  • Alternator went today

I looked at the two explanations on this site of how to remove and replace the alternator. I figure after 15 year or so of these cars being around, someone would know which way is the easiest. I was hoping to never have to tackle this job....

I came up with the pulling the axle method. I stick by that one because then I don't have to worry about messing up my steering shaft from the sub-frame coming down too far, and no worries about a new alignment afterward either.

That 45 minute fix on the w-body forum looks intriguing, however I don't want to risk the above mentioned. I will follow the "alldata" recommendation. Thanks,

most guys pull the axle to do it... the other way also works, i think it would be frustrating to do it with the axle in the way..

I've been able to do it by lowering only the RH rear corner of the subframe. Might need to stick a little bottle jack in for an extra inch or so but it falls right out. Takes about 30 mins on a lift.
