ALDL connector OBD-I OR OBD-II

hey guys enlighten me. i have a 94 olds cutlass supreme 3.4l .the SES is on .
and i
dont know how to read the codes. it has a 12 pin connector under the dash.
tried shorting the A to b terminals together. but the B terminal is missing in the plug. so nothing happens. it appears that there is an A,M an maybe a D terminal but its on the bottom row of the plug.

i think the manual says its OBD-II but the man at autozone said its OBD-I because his 16 pin scanner wont plug in it.
what im i doing wrong?

'94 is OBD-I but is a wierd one (deemed OBD-1.5 on the boards) So you cant read it with a OBDII scanner or Jump the terminals to get the SES light to flash like OBD-I.. You must use a OBD-I scanner.
OBD-I connection (much bigger then OBDII)


OBD-II Connection (smaller connector, smaller pins)

would you recommend any particular scanner for this ,or are they all about the same.

if your just reading codes and basic info they should all be about the same. some will show you what your sensors are doing, i would say that one would be worth a couple extra $$ if you buying one.. but all OBDI readers should be able to pull codes.
