  • TIMING GEAR WIGGLYING AROUND!!!

i opened up the timing inspection cover and started the car up...the noise i was hearing wasnt the PS pump or any of the accessories but the damn gear of the timing belt...it looks as though they did not put the lockrings on the cam gears or something cuz one cam is really spining NOT IN A CIRCLE...ima post a vid up in about 1hr so for now, wat do you think it is? Bent/stuck valves? GRR!!

    UPDATE: here's the vid

i'd be going back to that shop real quick and have them fix that. Wit it wobbling around it might have damaged the gear and cam itself. Valves I don't think so

I can't tell from the vid, but does the whole gear wobble or just the bolt? Is the bolt tight?

it looks as just the bolt though the gear wobbles some...i know there are suppose to be lockrings on the 93 setup but looking at the cam, i can not see any. Will not putting the lockrings back on affect it? Were are the lockrings located?

Without lock rings the gear will wobble. Short of taking it apart I see of no way of telling what is wrong.

I hope its the gear and not the cam itself or the carrier. Hard to tell but that doesn't look healthy at all. If you can get the bolt off and then the cam gear moves...you have to retime it. I would use a cam flat tool to make sure the cam doesnt move and then remove the bolt and see what the gear does. Hopefully its just the lockring.

so i leave the belt on the gears, spinn the gears/belts till the cam flats are up and just bolt down the cam hold down tools right? then just untighten the bolt on the cam gear, inspect the bolt then remove lockring? Wat is the UNIVERSAL 3 PRONG PULLER USED FOR? TO pull the cam off the camshaft? Thanks for everyone's help thanks!

I don't think you should use wood. If you put any torque into those at all there would be deflection in the wood which would cause the timing to go off a few degrees on the cams.

I made mine from 3/4 steel stock, and I advise you do the same.

I'll get a pic of mine when I get home.
