Could a MAF Screen removed cause DTC P0104?
    Google showed up with this:
DTC: P0104Trouble diagnosis nameMass or Volume Air Flow Circuit IntermittentComponent or System DescriptionThe mass air flow sensor is placed in the stream of intake air. It measures the intake flow rate by measuring a part of the entire intake flow. It consists of a hot film that is supplied with electric current from the ECM. The temperature of the hot film is controlled by the ECM acertain amount. The heat generated by the hot film is reduced as the intake air flows around it. The more air, the greater the heat loss. Therefore, the ECM must supply more electric current to maintain the temperature of the hot film as air flow increases. The ECM detects the air flow by means of this current change. When the DTC is detected? The code is triger when the Mass Air Flow High (MAF) sensor is producing an incorrect air flow readings.Possible SymptomsYou will likely not notice any serious drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a general decrease in power or sluggishness.Possible CausesA code P0104 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

The mass air flow (MAF) circuit is incomplete (broken / frayed wire, etc.)

There is an air leak in the intake system
Possible SolutionThe simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
Then start with the cheapest, easiest repair procedures:

Verify that the Mass Air Flow Sensor wiring is connected properly and that there are no broken / frayed wires.

Inspect for any air leaks near the MAF sensor.

Check the voltage of the MAF sensor (refer to a repair manual for vehicle specific information)

    Replace the MAF sensor

I've always been told to leave the screen in place because it keeps the airflow nice and smooth instead of erratic and turbulent so the actual sensor can get a more accurate reading. Have you cleaned it recently? I bought a can of the MAF cleaner CRC makes this past summer and on the can it claims something like giving you 8-10 hp. What it doesn't say is you don't actually gain it, you just got it back after losing it because your MAF got dirty in the first place. They recommend cleaning the MAF every time you change your air filter. Is your MAF before or after your rotary muffler?

I would try giving the MAF a clean first. It can't hurt and its much cheaper than a MAF.

I bet its dirty or the sensor is shot from blow by. I would look into those two things and if nothing then the air filter. I am running an ls1 Maf, never had a sensor pop up like that. Maybe with DHP we can eliminate the MAF all together, I am not sure.

Yeah, I've got an old one that's not perfect but could pass for usable in a stock situation.
