  • mistery wire?

so i found a wire, i swear i know where it goes but for the life of me cannot remember..

Front of engine connects to main harness (kind of where the trans bell housing and the engine meet), its a green wire with a connector (so you can plug/unplug it from main harness) on the end of the wire there is a rubber boot and whats left of a crip connection on the end... dunno if its a ground or what... i know ive seen it before but cannot for the life of me remember where... Im thinking it plugs in to a sensor near the drivers side of the front head... can someone help me identify it?

Sounds like a Coolant Temp Sensor wire. If you look at the last picture, the one of the oil pump shaft cover... At the lower left you can just see the sensor, but not the wire. I'm almost sure that wire is green..

      Hopefully this helps,,,,

the car is a 1995 Z34 and it is a 1996 DOHC harness... but the sensor is original to the car and it matches up on the new harness as well.

that is exactly what i was thinking... i looked on the auto parts store web site and cannot find a listing for that coolant sensor (1 wire).... only the one that goes into the lower intake manifold (2 wire). is there anything else it could be called?

        thanks in advance

Mine, while not a TDC, never gets much past 1/4. 1/4= 180, 1/2 = 200 on my car. Verified with scannerpro and when the fans kick on.. 1/8th is like 160. 195F stat.

This winter I'm thinking about putting cardboard over the radiator... it never gets to 1/4 even unless I'm revving it and not moving in the drive through... Takes FOREVER to get hot heat.

i assume when i remove the sensor its gunna piss coolant all over... Its a little more difficult in mine the way my turbo sits to just swap them without making a huge mess... Ohh the things i do for performance... my garage is gunna be nasty by the time i get it all together lol

keep the coolant system sealed.. Like dont undo any hoses or undo the radiator cap and when you take the sendor out very little antifreeze will come out because it will have to suck in air first in order to spill it out.. i changed mine that way and lost barely any and it wasnt enough to add in the radiator nor the overflow sinve the overflow took car of it for me.. maybe it will help for you maybe not but it worked for me..

i don't know if it was an isolated incident for me or what, but on the MC when i changed the stat, didn't need to bleed it at all.... i think because i did exactly what Robert described above.

I've had several 195F stats, they all operated the same as I mentioned.
In summer though they will run at 180ish while on the highway, then jump up to 200 or so in town quickly. In winter it's 160-180 tops.
