How would you know or the symptoms of a 3.4L DOHC engine thats off time. I think my timing is way off time because I have two hand written marks that I believe line up but one is off by 4-5 teeth on the cam sprocket.

The only way to really know if it is out of time is to pull the valve covers and check to see how the cam flats line up in relation to the crank. If marks on the cam gears don't line up, I wouldn't worry, it probably means someone did the cam timing right the last time the belt was changed.
